The new age
channeling craze began in 1972 by Jane Roberts and Robert Butts, her husband. The couple claim that "seth," a very wise invisible entity, communicated his wisdom to Jane. This knowledge was then dictated to Butts while she was in a trance state. Roberts was a poet, who was widely read in many religious and occult circles. The proof of these channelings is found in the fact that Jane was communicating ideas that were quiet beyond her ability, thus the birth of new age channeling.
The idea of channeling spirits in an altered state of consciousness is somewhat old these days, and, to a greater degree, unpractical.
